Co-branding Project for a Local School District

Overview

The co-branding initiative in DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is a project created to enhance the brand of each school district-wide. Unfortunately, schools typically don’t have the resources or support to pay for such services, so the Communications team developed a plan to re-create each school’s logos and stationery items in phases.

Today DCSD has had over 40%+ of its school logos either redrawn or changed completely. These new logo and branding assets are then distributed to liaisons on staff to ensure brand consistency and support of the district’s style standards. As a graphic designer, my role in this project was to design each logo and communicate with staff to ensure logos were created on a specific timeline.

Here’s How it Works

Step 1: School Submits A Logo

School submits their current crest or logo. If the logo submitted is pixelated (blurry), distorted, sketched, or contains a colored background that could be distracting, an enhanced version of the current logo will be created.

School Submission (Before)

  • Pixelated/Blurry (Low-resolution)

  • Contains a Background

  • No School Name

Step 2: The Logo is Vectorized

The enhanced logo is submitted to the school for review. Once the logo is approved, an email verifying all logo components are correct is sent back to the Communications team.

Designer Submission (After)

  • Clear Logo File (High-Resolution)

  • Transparent Background

  • Enhanced Colors

Step 3: New Stationery is Delivered

Once finalized, schools receive new stationery (i.e., business cards, letterhead, fax cover sheet, and envelope) containing the new co-branded logo assets. The stationery templates are fully editable in Microsoft Word.
